When it comes to fuel efficiency in keeping your home warm, you can’t beat a residential propane heating system. Whether you have a furnace or a boiler, propane will provide even, comfortable heat in the winter. Propane space heaters can be used for unheated areas that aren’t regularly used, like garages, workshops, sheds and enclosed porches.
Residential propane offers several benefits, making it a popular choice for heating, cooking, and other energy needs in homes. Here are some key advantages.
Efficiency: Propane is a highly efficient fuel, providing more energy per unit than many other fuels, which can lead to lower energy bills.
Cost-Effective: While prices can fluctuate, propane often costs less than electricity and heating oil, especially in rural areas where natural gas may not be available.
Versatility: Propane can be used for various applications, including heating, cooking, water heating, and powering appliances like dryers and fireplaces.
Environmentally Friendly: Propane produces fewer greenhouse gas emissions compared to oil and coal, making it a cleaner-burning alternative.
Reliability: Propane is stored on-site in tanks, providing a reliable energy source even during power outages or natural disasters.
Easy to Store: Propane can be stored safely in tanks, allowing homeowners to manage their fuel supply according to their needs.
Performance: Propane appliances often heat up quickly and operate efficiently, providing consistent performance for cooking and heating.
Availability: Propane is widely available, even in remote areas where other fuel options might be limited.
Long Shelf Life: Propane can be stored indefinitely without degrading, making it a reliable fuel choice for long-term use.
Incentives and Rebates: Many regions offer incentives for using propane appliances, which can offset installation and equipment costs.
Overall, residential propane can be a smart energy choice for homeowners seeking efficiency, versatility, and reliability.

Propane gas water heaters cost approximately $10 less per month to operate than comparable electric units. On average, propane water heaters are 42 percent less expensive than electric heaters – over an average life span, propane gas water heaters can save homeowners nearly $2,000 more than an electric unit. Propane gas water heaters also heat more than twice as much water in an hour as a comparable electric model.
Propane-fueled cook tops offer instant heat and absolute temperature control. Ninety-seven percent of professional chefs prefer cooking with gas. Unlike electricity-powered appliances, propane appliances are not affected by power outages. Homeowners can continue to enjoy cooking meals in warm homes.
Your cooking game will be elevated big-time with a propane stove, which offers the precise temperature control favored by chefs. Instant-on and instant-off means you start cooking faster, and can prevent overcooking when you turn the burner off. You can also get propane stoves with features like a grill and a griddle, ovens with convection and steam settings, controls for different cooking methods, and warming drawers.
Propane-fueled dryers can complete drying tasks in approximately three-quarters of the time it takes an electric unit. Some models save up to 65 percent in costs over electric dryers. Clothes dryers that run on propane are more energy efficient, offer all the latest features, including steam cycles, and will dry your clothes faster and with fewer wrinkles. Who wouldn’t love less ironing?
At ProGas, we offer a variety of tanks and installation options. We will set the propane tanks, run gas lines, connect to the home or business, and test for leaks.
Above ground propane tanks:
Here are the steps we take before installing a propane tank at your home.
Step 1: Determine Tank Size
Factors influencing tank size are the total square footage of the home, total BTU load of installed propane appliances and the climate zone. Typical horizontal propane tanks have a water capacity of 120 to 1,000 gallons and can be filled with propane to the 80 percent level.
Step 2: Determine Tank Placement
We evaluate accessible, safety-approved sites when selecting a location for a propane tank. Considerations should include:
Step 3: Tank Installation
Basic tank installation can be completed in a few hours, either by our own service technicians or approved contractors who can complete the project in an efficient manner.
Step 4. Regulator Placement
Regulators come with pipe size and distance requirements, just like tanks, and cannot be placed closer than 3 feet horizontally from any building opening, such as a window well, nor can they be placed closer than 5 feet from any source of ignition, such as an AC compressor. Our technicians will ensure that your tank is in compliance.
